Then answer the following questions in complete sentences on the piece of lined paper inside your folder. 1. Have you ever taken a Spanish class before? 2. If yes, what was your favorite part about the class and when/how long was it? 3. Where have you heard Spanish spoken or seen it written before in Baltimore? 4. Why do you think the state of Maryland requires students to take a foreign language in order to graduate high school?

Objetivos (Objectives) Recognize basic phrases in Spanish in order to introduce yourself and ask other’s names in Spanish. Discuss the course syllabus in order to recognize important class rules, procedures and policies. Participate in a gallery walk in order to identify important reasons to study Spanish.

Introducciones y Preguntas (Introductions and Questions) You will hear Señorita introduce herself in Spanish. Based on what she says, answer the following questions in complete sentences in English. Be sure to listen for cognates (words that have similar pronunciation and the same meaning in both English and Spanish) and use the “cheat sheet” to recognize unfamiliar Spanish phrases. 1. Gallery Walk You will be participating in a gallery walk to learn some reasons why studying Spanish is important. You will have seven minutes to read each of the signs posted around the room with reasons to study Spanish. You will write down each of these reasons in your folder, under today’s Hacer Ahora. Once you have finished reading each of the signs, please return to your seat and answer the reflection questions that will be shown on the next slide in your folder.
