Using Talking Typing Teacher

CTWorks Assistive Technology This presentation is intended to provide information about and how to use the assistive technology available in each of the CTWorks Career Centers. The information will be helpful to employers, job seekers, service providers and Career Center staff.

Using Talking Typing Teacher In this course you will learn about Talking Typing Teacher. By the end of this course you will be able to answer the following questions: What is Talking Typing Teacher? Who benefits from using this product? What is Talking Typing Teacher and what can it be used to do? How are the major features used and configured?

What is Talking Typing Teacher? Talking Typing Teacher is a touch typing instruction program which is unique in that all of the instructions are spoken. It is based on a series of lessons that teach someone the locations of most of the keys on a standard computer keyboard. It has many other features for practicing and enhancing typing skills once the keyboard has been mastered.

Who Benefits From Using Talking Typing Teacher? People who are low vision and blind who need to learn to type. Anyone who might benefit from or enjoy learning to type using a program where all of the instructions and lessons are spoken.

Starting Talking Typing Teacher Start Talking Typing Teacher by using any of the following: Double click the Talking Typing Teacher program icon on your Windows desktop. In the Windows Start menu, choose Programs -> Talking Typing Teacher Using the shortcut key CTRL+ Alt+ T

Talking Typing Teacher User Interface Talking Typing Teacher User Interface is the Window that appears in the middle of the computer screen when the Talking Typing Teacher program is started. All Talking Typing Teacher functions can be accessed through standard buttons and combo boxes.

Starting Typing Lessons Use the Arrow Keys (Right arrow is best) until “Typing Lessons” Is heard. Press Spacebar or Enter to begin. Alternatively, Click on the Typing Lessons Button with the mouse.

Choosing a Level Talking Typing Teacher has 3 levels. Most people can learn at level 3. The lower levels change both the number of keys taught and how instructions are worded to make it simpler to use. Use the Tab Key to get to “Level Selection.” Arrow Up or Down to select the level. Alternatively, click with the mouse on the arrow on the right of the bar and click to select the level.

Choosing a Lesson Talking Typing Teacher has different numbers of lessons depending on the level selected. Use the Tab Key to get to “Lesson Selection.” Arrow Up or Down to select the lesson. Alternatively, click with the mouse on the arrow on the right of the bar and click to select the lesson Press Enter to begin or Click on Take Lesson.

Exiting the Program To exit the program, Press Escape to get to “What do you want the computer to do?” Use Arrow Up or Down to select choice. Usually this will be “Exit to Windows” or “Shutdown” (which will turn the computer off). Alternatively, click with the mouse on the arrow on the right of the bar and click to select the desired action Press Enter to execute or Click on OK.
