KidQuest Gets Crazy About Quilting

QUILTING ACROSS THE CERRICULEM While working on quilting projects we learned about  Pattern and design  Measuring  Descriptive writing  Geometry  Family traditions

Writing The children planned their patterns and wrote a plan to follow.

Reading Some of the Quilt stories we read: Eight Hands Round, The Name Quilt, Luca’s Quilt, Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt, and the Keeping Quilt

Patches were made with many different materials. When Hannah designed a patch with geometric shape tiles, she learned about pattern, design and geometry.

Pegs Kindergarteners Elijah, Ethan and Hannah practiced making designs and patterns with pegs before they started cutting their fabric.

Rubber Bands Quilters created original quilt patterns with rubber bands.

Paper scraps Some of the students used colorful paper scraps to plan their patterns. They learned how to combine shape and color to put together patch that tells a story.

Stained Glass Patches Students explored quilt designs in a different form when they made stained glass patches with wax paper and markers.

Our patches are unique, just like each of us.

Guin chose to make her schoolhouse patch into a pillow. Guin - kindergarten

Kori made a maple leaf pattern to appliqué to her patch. Kori 2nd grade

Emily create her crazy patch from a collection of scraps. Emily - kindergarten

Putting together the final KidQuest Quilt Everyone had a hand in it.
