What is a singular noun?

A singular noun is a word that names one person, place, thing, or idea. For example : snake letter girl

Find the singular noun or nouns in the following sentences. The dog ran down the street. An elephant is a huge animal. That book fell on the floor. Macungie Elementary School is awesome!

A plural noun is a word that names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

Special Rules for Plural You should: If: Examples: add es the noun ends with sh, ch, ss, s, or x bushes, watches, passes, buses, foxes the noun ends with o tomatoes, potatoes change the y to an i and add es if the singular noun ends in a consonant and a y penny  pennies change the f to a v and add es If the singular noun ends with an f wolf  wolves Just add s If the singular noun ends in vowel and y turkey  turkeys

More Special Rules Some nouns do not change at all (deer to deer, fish to fish) Some nouns change into different words (child to children, goose to geese, person to people)
