UNIVERSITY APPLICATION AT THE KJS 6 TH FORM COLLEGE

UNIVERSITY APPLICATION: This can be a very daunting time for our 6 th form students, with many things to consider: Do I want to attend University? Can I afford it? What would I study? What can I do as a career after University?

UNIVERSITY APPLICATION: What if I do not want to attend University? What qualifications/ grades will I need? What do I put in my personal statement? Each year, many of our students leave to attend some of the best Universities in the UK. So, how do we help?

WHAT DO WE OFFER FOR OUR STUDENTS? Tutor times dedicated to students choosing Universities/ courses/ Careers. Personal Statement workshops for students that need guidance with written statements. UCAS application guidance sessions. Trips to university taster days (including Oxford and Cambridge) Student finance advice.

RUSSELL GROUP UNIVERSITIES: These are the top 24 universities in the UK. Applying for these universities can be more competitive and so students need to be well prepared.

RUSSELL GROUP UNIVERSITIES: Our Russell Group candidates are identified during years 10 and 11 and will be attending weekly workshops during tutor time throughout years 11,12 and 13 This will ensure that they have been given one on one support with the application process. During these sessions they will be able to:

RUSSELL GROUP UNIVERSITIES: Receive support with UCAS application and personal statements. Receive advice with regards to student finance Research courses and course requirements (as well as ensure A level choices suit University requirements in year 11)

RUSSELL GROUP UNIVERSITIES: Meet former pupils that have gone on to Russell Group Universities and can offer guidance on Interview stage. These students are also invited to taster days at Cambridge University and take part in workshops run by Russell Group University lectures that visit the KJS.

WHAT INCREASES YOUR CHANCE OF GAINING A PLACE AT UNIVERSITY? As well as academia, Universities look for students that are well rounded individuals. They encourage extra curricular activities such as a sport, charity work or taking part in student voice. This shows organisation and leadership skills. Individual responsibilities like prefect work or a part time job are also favoured.

WHAT INCREASES YOUR CHANCE OF GAINING A PLACE AT UNIVERSITY? Taking appropriate subjects choices for course. It is worth researching what universities require for certain courses. Work experience (particularly in the area that the student wishes to study in) is very useful. 37 per cent of graduate employers, employ students that have previously undertaken work experience for their business.
