Distance, Slope, and Midpoint Day 10

Day 10 Math Review

Objectives  Develop and apply the formula for midpoint.  Use the Distance Formula and the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points.  Find the slope of a line.  Use slopes to identify parallel and perpendicular lines.

Vocabulary coordinate plane leg hypotenuse rise run slope

Activity  Complete 1-6 exploration (p. 31) on your own or with a partner.  You have minutes.  Share a few with the class

A coordinate plane is a plane that is divided into four regions by a horizontal line (x-axis) and a vertical line (y-axis). The location, or coordinates, of a point are given by an ordered pair (x, y). You can find the midpoint of a segment by using the coordinates of its endpoints. Calculate the average of the x-coordinates and the average of the y-coordinates of the endpoints.

The slope of a line in a coordinate plane is a number that describes the steepness of the line. Any two points on a line can be used to determine the slope.

Work Time  Complete pages in your workbook  Completed, Correct pages will be stamped  Return to class bin when you are finished

Exit Quiz  Complete the quiz  Show any and all work that you can  Circle your answers  Turn it in before you leave
