Wolfgang Tillmans
Background He was born in Remscheid Germany on August 15, He grew up taking pictures and writing in journals since the age of six. He lived and worked in Hamburg till the end of the 1980s before moving to England.
Education From 1990 to 1992 he studied at Bournemouth and Poole college of Art. Most of his learning was done as a boy on his own though.
Personal life Wolfgang tries to keep his personal life private. The few things that we do know are very personal like that he just got out of rehab which he checked himself into and that he is not married. He tries to live by the quote “love is life, and life is love.”
Photography He uses his art to challenge the modern world. His art work is very intimate and evocative in his still life photographs mainly. They are often captured in seemingly casual poses or focus in on objects or people in everyday life that are usually overlooked. Many of his paintings also create allusions.
Interesting Facts Tillmans’ work has been the subject of many publications including Burg, Portraits, View from above, Truth study center, and most recently Manual. They’re have also been many catalogues published about him and his artwork. He invented a presentational practice that makes space objects seem more dynamic and help have a more specific space venue.
