Survivor Benefits Plan (SBP) –An insurance program to protect the spouse or former spouse of a retiree who dies. Full coverage costs about 6% of the retirement plan. Without electing SBP at the time of the retirement all retired payments stop at the death of the retiree. –Stops at remarriage of former spouse if less than 55 years of age –Continues if former spouse is 55 or older at remarriage

Medical Benefits – –children of active duty and retired members are automatically covered –Unremarried 20/20/20 former spouses - those former spouses that were married to an active duty member for twenty years while that person was on active duty for at least 20 years and those 20 years overlap –some former spouses are eligible if they do not meet the 20/20/20 rule. Cost is $310 a month and coverage usually only lasts 3 years –If former spouses have other coverage they are not eligible for TRICARE or CHCBP
