Parents Confronting Bullies: Due to a Failed System

3 Main Types of Bullying Relational- Pertains to social isolation, such as gossiping, intentionally leaving a person out of activities, spreading rumors, etc. Physical- Sticks and Stones will break my bones. Verbal- Words can also hurt me.

Why Are Anti-Bullying Strategies In Schools Ineffective? Four Main Reasons Reason One: Teachers and other staff members at school are not educated properly on recognizing the signs of bullying. Even if a teacher or staff member “does” recognize a certain situation, most don’t know how to intervene properly, therefore causing a bigger problem for the victim later on. The only solution to these problems is to implement anti-bullying training in schools. Unfortunately, it is not required to do so and most never learn proper strategies to end bullying.

Reason Two: Teachers and other staff members think they are intervening more than they really are. Statistics show that teachers think they intervene in bullying situations about 84% of the time, while students say that teachers only intervene 35% of the time.

Reason Three: Schools need more student involvement when forming new anti- bullying strategies. In one school, students were involved in coming up with new anti-bullying strategies. They posted a sign in the cafeteria saying: This had a huge effect on the bullying in that school. It basically told all bullies they were being watched and action would be taken against them if they were involved in any kind of victimization.

Reason 4: Teachers and other staff members simply not caring enough. Statistics show that most teachers and other staff members usually say that “being bullied is just a part of life.” This is the biggest reason students aren’t protected by the anti-bullying system. If nobody cares, then how can it stop?

Percentage of Students Being Bullied Statistics show that 25% of all students are bullied at school. Disabled students are bullied 85% of the time at school

The time has come for our kids to feel safe from bullies. Actions that need to be taken: Schools need to teach all staff members about anti- bullying. Students need to be more involved Listen to a child in need If not, then parents may have to take it upon themselves to stop it.

James Willie Jones Dr. Phil interviewed this man about the situation on the bus. He said that his daughter, who has cerebral palsy, came to him and told him she was being bullied. The bullies were hitting and kicking her, throwing condoms at her, grabbing her in inappropriate places, and teasing her all the time. The question is: Did this man go too far? As parents, it is our duty to protect our children. We must be able to read the warning signs and know how to handle the situation properly.

Why did he take it upon himself to confront the bullies? The main reason is because nobody tried to stop it from happening. Neither the bus driver nor any other school officials tried to intervene in any way. The mistake the man made was not only his vulgar language and forceful actions, but he also didn’t talk to any school officials before he confronted them. This is a perfect example of a system that has failed.

Reading the signs As parents, it is our duty to protect our children. We must be able to read the warning signs and know how to handle the situation properly. We must also recognize whether or not a child is the bully or the victim. If the child happens to be the bully, it is also up to us to discipline them for their actions. So just who is the biggest bully in America?
