ARDAAS (PRAYER)

ARDAAS “Ardaas” means Prayer. A Sikh will read through a formal Ardaas at least twice a day. As with all faiths, Ardaas (Prayer) is a source of strength and support. For Sikhs, Ardaas to the Guru is done in times of good or bad to: 1) seek the support of the Divine Being, 2) offer Thanks, and 3) Ask that all may prosper in acceptance of the Will of God.

Remembering our Guru: There is only One Divine Being Let us remember the 10 living Gurus – may we live by their example, And let us remember the lasting light found in the teachings of the Eternal Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Remembering Gursikhs: Let us remember the devoted Sikhs who lived their lives working hard and sharing their wealth while remembering God. STRUCTURE OF ARDAAS

Honoring Sacrifices & Martyrs: Let us remember all of sacrifices made by those brave souls who - in the face of great struggle – never gave up their identity or their principles and gave their lives for the Sikh Faith. Remembering our Institutions: Let us remember the Five Thrones and pray for the well-being of every Gurdwara in the world. STRUCTURE OF ARDAAS

Prayer Begins (formally): First, may the whole of the Khalsa pray and meditate upon your glorious name. May peace and joy reach us by such remembrance. The Gifts of Sikhi: May you grant us the gifts of: Stewardship / Devotion Long, Unshorn Hair Discipline Discernment Trust Faith And Naam – the biggest gift of all. STRUCTURE OF ARDAAS

Mental strength May we remain humble and low, yet live by the highest of thought and intellect. Praying for our Institutions: Please guide us to continue our selfless service and uphold our faith at all Gurdwaras across the world. STRUCTURE OF ARDAAS

Purpose of Prayer “O’ Almighty – the Honor of those without honor, the Power of those without power, the Shelter of those without shelter…” This prayer is being recited for _________________. Nanak! Through the Divine Force, we live in excellence and ecstasy! May everyone prosper within your Will! The Pure-hearted Ones are Divine; All are Victorious under the Lord. STRUCTURE OF ARDAAS
