Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [1] “DOLBY Systems Vs DTS 6” Under the guidance of : Mr. R K Dash

Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [2] INTRODUCTION Three competing multi-channel digital audio formats : Dolby Digital. DTS Digital Sound. SDDS.

Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [3] HISTORICAL OVERVIEW DTS Digital Sound Developed by Terry Beard along with Jim Ketcham in mid- 1980s. Guided by two convictions : Digital sound was for all theatres. Easier, less expensive, more reliable, more flexible, and higher in quality delivering of audio data. Dolby Digital Creators: Dolby Laboratories in Used more flexible 'adaptive' coding system called AC-3.

Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [4] WORKING & TECHNICAL ASPECTS DTS Digital Sound  Six digital audio channels.  Recorded on to a CD-ROM along with time-code track.  Miniature reader empowered by main electronic package mounted on the projector.  Code from reader is fed to the DTS processor. Dolby Digital  Three front channels and a surround-sound channel.  Uses an advanced noise-reduction process.

Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [7] Dolby Digital Vs DTS: Which is Better? DTS Digital Sound Offers higher than CD-resolution audio within the Bandwidth. Soundtrack present on separate CD. Operates at a rate of 1536 kb/s. Dolby Digital Reduces Bandwidth to reproduce multi channel audio. Places its digital soundtrack as optical marking. Depends on design of codec.

Technical Seminar Presentation 2004 SAMBIT MOHAPATRA EE DOLBY SYSTEMS Vs DTS 6 [8] CONCLUSION The DTS tracks plays louder than Dolby Digital ones. Minor technical differences between both the systems. Major difference in cost.
