The Daphne Jackson Trust Daphne Jackson Fellowships are: Quite different from all the other Fellowships you will hear about today... So, why am I here? You may be very grateful for a Fellowship in the future...

The Daphne Jackson Trust Who was Daphne Jackson?  Britain’s first female physics professor  Lifelong campaigner, encouraging women into SET  Scientific retraining needed after career break  Devised Fellowship scheme in 1985  Trust set up in 1992 after her death

The Daphne Jackson Trust What does the Trust do?  Returners scheme for science, engineering and technology (SET) Professionals, men and women  Career break of two years or more  Need to retrain and rebuild confidence  After Fellowship, back on a level playing field with others

The Daphne Jackson Trust How does the Trust do it?  Offers 2 year part-time Fellowships  Current scheme has been predominantly academic  96% success rate in returning Fellows to SETcareers  178 Fellowships awarded to date  Complete range of subjects in SET  Extending the scheme into industry….

The Daphne Jackson Trust Hosts and Sponsors  Universities and industrial research laboratories can be host institutions  Research Councils, Universities, Charities and industrial companies sponsor Fellowships  BBSRC and Imperial College both sponsor Fellowships

The Daphne Jackson Trust Some Imperial College Fellows: Professor Betty Johnson MBE – Fellow Had a very successful career as a research physicist and founded Daphnet. Hilary White – Fellow Now owns a very successful renewable energy business. Dr Vassiliki Koufopanou – Fellow 2001 – She is now an independent researcher at Imperial College.
