General Course Rules Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes. A student is responsible for the work done, and for any announcements made during his/her absence. Evaluation: Attendance: at least 80% of classes Quizzes: Students who miss an announced examination or quiz must present an excuse considered valid by the instructor of the course. COURSE SYLLABUS Course Objective: Application of principles of economics to identify the causes, consequences, and ways of dealing with economic resource problems, including problems associated with Human capital, agriculture, energy problems, Metal and mineral. The major topics covered in this course include Defining economic efficiency and other criteria for evaluating natural resource use and policy Examining sources of inefficiency in the exploration of economic resources Discussing policy options to reduce inefficiency, and Applying economic concepts to management of specific economic resources, Human capital, agriculture, energy problems, Metal and mineral resources. COURSE SYLLABUS Student Learning Goals Develop critical thinking skills and apply them to the evaluation of resource management decisions. Develop an understanding of the role and application of economics in natural resource management. Develop an understanding of the diversity of perspectives toward resources management. Develop knowledge of the variety of resource issues in the past, present and future. Analyze resources management issues and their relationship to: property rights, externalities, market structure, discount rates, and equity.
