The LTI Protocol An Opportunity for Deep Integration into the LMS

Silos Upon Silos Discovery services help bring together the data in a variety of information silos (individual databases) However, the library itself can seem to be a silo on campus, separate from where the majority of teaching and learning happens

Where the Teaching and Learning Happens Using the library isn’t terribly easy to do in the LMS. For example, how would you get from a search result in a database to the point where your students read the item?

With this LTI tool, instructors stay within their course

New Features Librarians log in to a new administration dashboard to configure what used to be custom parameters. This allows libraries to change these values at will and eliminates the need for IT units to make changes.

New Features New administrative options include: –Collection of student clicks –Link to an external CSS stylesheet –Set footer text / copyright notice –Option to prompt user to copy list –Remove ability to ‘uncheck’ full-text limiters –Show a ‘Return to Course’ link at top of page

New Features Collect Student Data will only record clicks of assigned readings and clicks into the lists. It will not record any searches done by students. This is expected behavior in LMS tools, and was the #1 requested feature by faculty using it.

New Features Each semester, faculty use the Copy Course feature of the LMS to create a new instance of their course. This feature allows easier re-use of past reading lists in this context. Previously, faculty would have to manually import an existing list.

New Features Faculty members can add instructions and notes not linked to any particular reading.

New Features The tool can now be embedded in the LMS frame rather than popping open a new window.

Minor Improvements A link back to the course can be added at the top of the screen. Librarians can see reading list contents from the administration dashboard. Login to administration dashboard now uses Consumer Key and Secret and can be accessed immediately after subscribing.

Bug Fixes Links from catalog 856 fields now display. Custom Links with no icons no longer display broken image link Encoding of search terms and facets with ampersands and apostrophes now work HTTPS support available now, eliminating security warnings Pop-up blockers no longer a problem
