Egypt: Military By DavidBy David

Commanders & Chiefs Commanders & Chiefs It was during the long military campaigns against the Hyksos that the Egyptian army learned to use the superior strategies and weapons of there enemies The new model army was based on a structured hierarchy controlled with strict discipline.

Military Traditions By the time of Tuthmosis III Egypt had earned a well deserved reputation for having one of the best-trained armies in the near east. Ironically, the Egyptians were actually among the least warlike people of ancient times as Nile provided all necessary materials for survival and its desert borders protected Egypt Success of Hyksos invasion alerted Egypt to the need for a stronger army Army was very disciplined and well trained Army invoked the power of the gods to ensure victory

Weapons of Ancient Egypt The weapons they used were copper such as: war spears, swords, clubs, slings, bows, axe. During Hyksos invasion, Egypt’s copper weapons were inferior to the bronze weapons of the Hyksos Over time Egypt improved its weapons

Picks of weapons

Egypt’s success was to be punctured by the invasion of the Hyksos, a warlike people, most likely from a area of what is now Syria and Palestine. Egypt weapons were no match against new technologies such as the bows, horse drawn chariots and Bronze weapons during the Hyksos invasion and 150 year occupation Egypt improved their weapons and drove the Hyksos out The Hyksos invasion
