TEEB Training Module 5: Policy Responses to TEEB Findings TEEB Training for National Level Implementation

TEEB Training Responding to TEEB findings What does this mean?  Responding to the information generated by a TEEB study with appropriate policy measures e.g. –addressing harmful subsidies –the implementation of a PES scheme –strengthening national protected area systems Why is it important?  Responding to such findings can help address policy issues more effectively and further guide policy making towards more socially, economically and ecologically sustainable action

TEEB Training Module Goal  To Demonstrate the importance of responding to TEEB findings and provide a range of different policy options and instruments that can be used for improved stewardship of natural capital.

TEEB Training Main objectives of module 5  Explores the importance of integrating ecosystem services values into decision-making  Emphasizes the need to consider the policy context when making such decisions  Introduces a range of different policy options and instruments for responding  Identifies case studies where different these different policy responses and instruments have been applied across the globe

TEEB Training The Module is broken down into 3 sessions:  Session 1: Integrating ecosystem services values into decision making  Session 2: Instruments for improved Stewardship of Natural Capital  Session 3: The Road Ahead

TEEB Training Learning Outcomes  Demonstrate an understanding of the existing policy responses available for use when responding to TEEB findings  Recognize the main limitations and challenges of these policy responses  Identify and understand some case study examples of where these policy responses are being put into action  Identify the suitable application of the various policy responses in their own country context -group exercise

TEEB Training Module Agenda Duration (mins)Session 20Introduction and Icebreaker 60Session 1: Integrating ecosystem services values into decision making 20Coffee Break 60Session 2: Instruments for improved Stewardship of Natural Capital 60Lunch 60Session 2 (continued): Instruments for improved Stewardship of Natural Capital 40 Group Exercise 50 Session 3: The Road Ahead 10 Summary and Questions 5 Wrap up and closure

TEEB Training Ice breaker  In pairs, identify some useful policies/instruments that are already in place in your own country which have been effective at addressing/ contributed to improving the stewardship of natural capital e.g. certification schemes, park user fees etc
