 Autism is a life-long developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life.  It is thought to be the result of a neurological disorder that affects functioning of the brain, causing certain symptoms.

 Delayed or lack of speech  Repetitive movement of body (Arms, Head)  Impaired social skills  Limited interest in activities or play

 Asperger's disorder, is a type of pervasive development disorder.  PDDs are a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many basic skills, most notably the ability to socialize with others, to communicate, and to use imagination

 Talk a lot, usually about a favorite subject. (One-sided conversations, Internal thoughts verbalized.)  Have delayed motor development.  Avoid eye contact  Dislike change in routines  Have unusual facial expressions or postures.  Have a lack of empathy. ergers-syndrome-symptoms

 Learn about the disease.  Provide a supportive and loving environment.  Give the child a daily routine for meals, homework, bedtime.  Give them specific rules, causes less stress.  Teach them by being verbal and a straightforward manner.  Use Visual supports: schedules and other written materials that serve as organizational aids.  Don’t expect them to act their age, they mature slower.  Encourage the child to be social.
