ABOUT HINDUISM The complex religion known as Hinduism is the world's oldest living religion. The other three major religions born in India - Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism - owe their historical and cultural origin to Hinduism. In fact the word `Hinduism' is a misnomer. "Hindu" was originally used by Persians in a geographical sense rather than as a term identifying religion. Indians known as "Hindus" call their religion Sanatan Dharma, The Eternal Religion, or Vaidik Dharma, the Religion of the Vedic Tradition. NEXT PAGE HAS MORE!

Hinduism does not have a founder. Some say that their religion began hundreds and thousands of years ago. Certainly, some 3,000 years ago people in India were believing in god and worshipped them like they do now. They say that Hinduism begin also by the Holy scriptures of the Holy bible. Hindus believe in one supreme being or as said, their Gods. Indian man worshipping a god.

Hindu Gods Brahma the creator. Vishnu the preserver. Shiva the destroyer The lord Buddha the teacher, he taught the practice of non- violence

Kalki is the destroyer to all that is evil. Matsya the fish who saved the world from a flood. Kuma the tortoise who helped the gods become immortal. Krishna the cowherd is loved by animals and humans.

Rama is the king who showed how to rule justly and live simply. Parasurama the warrior who ended war. Vamana the dwarf who defeated the demon king Bali. Narasimha half man half lion who killed a demon that attacked Vishnu’s worshippers. Varaha is the boar who rescued earth when it fell.

Hindu Religious Symbols Hinduism has many, many ancient symbols that they use a lot. Especially the “OM” sound. They say that if you sit crossed leg and hands on your knees and say “ OM”and hum along time every morning and before bed, you will have a healthy and long life. Some even do Yoga. Which you have to be kind of flexible and concentrate on it very much. Which makes you even stay healthier. It is a part of their religion. Yoga
