Japan An island nation in the long arc stretching 3400 km from north to south along the eastern part of the Asian continent. It takes four large islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku) and about 1000 small islands. The Emperor is the "symbol of the state and the unity of the people"
