English medium schools State influenced elitist public schools / cadet colleges Private elitist schools Non elitist schools

State influenced institutions Top public schools Cadet colleges Federal government model schools Armed forces schools

Public schools / cadet colleges Quite expensive Affordable for the middle classes Tuition fees increase in senior classes 56.90% boys belong to middle class backgrounds. Textbooks in English but form the textbook boards.

Federal government model schools Some subjects in English and others in urdu Armed forces schools Generally provided cheap English medium schooling to their own dependents.

Private elitist schools Apart from the schools run by agencies. Existed since British times Not expensive Prepare students for the British ordinary and advance level examinations Teaching methods are modern, innovative and interesting Books are printed abroad Classics of English are used to teach English.

Non elitist schools English medium only in name No creativity No use of methodologies Only memorization Only mathematics and science subject were in English.

Products of non elitist English schools Not fluent in English No enhancement of communication skills No confidence

Conclusion In short, the English medium schools do not really contribute towards the creation of a democratic culture in Pakistan despite the fact that its products are aware of democratic values in the abstract.
