How Should the SAA Look? Containers  Compatible with contents (e.g., no metal containers for corrosives or certain plastics for organic solvents)  Good condition / no leaks / secure closure (e.g., screw caps)  Obtain additional or large containers from the E,H&S Office. NOTE: Large containers (>10 gal) on spill pallets require a drum jack to lift full drums.  Never overfill, as expansion and excess weight can lead to spills, explosions, and chemical exposures. Maximum Quantities  Hazardous – 55-gal in any combination of containers  Acutely hazardous – 1 quart of any one CAUTION Check chemical compatibility before adding waste to a container Required by Regulation

How Should the SAA Look? No Floor Drains LOCATION – same room or suite where waste is generated. Ideally in proper storage cabinets or, if on the floor, in an isolated, low-traffic area. Mark the designated area with tape.

A Note on Spill Pallets Use of drum-sized spill pallets requires the purchase of a portable drum jack to lift and move full drums.
