MAIN POINTS  STATISTICS  WHY DRINKING AND DRIVING IS DANGEROUS  WHAT IS EFFECTS  CONSEQUENCE’S OF DRINKING AND DRIVING  SIGNS OF A DRUNK DRIVER

STATISTICS  Among persons aged 12 or older, males were more likely than females (15.1 vs. 7.9 percent) to drive under the influence of alcohol in the past year.  There were 428 drunk driving deaths in Pennsylvania in  26 percent of drunk driving deaths in 2011 were in the age group.  On average each day, 32 crashes alcohol-related crashes occurred in  Additionally, 1.2 persons were killed and 23 persons were injured on average each day in Pennsylvania in 2011 because of an alcohol- related accident.

STATITICS CONTINUED…  In fatal crashes in 2011 the highest percentage of drivers with a BAC level of.08 or higher was for drivers ages 21 to 24.  The proportion of drivers involved in fatal crashes with BAC levels of.08 or higher was 24 percent among males and 14 percent among females  The percentages of drivers involved in fatal crashes with a BAC level of.08 or higher in 2011 were 29 percent for motorcycles, 24 percent for passenger cars, and 21 percent for light trucks.

DANGERS OF DRINKING AND DRIVING  A driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.10 or greater is seven times more likely to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash than is a driver who has not consumed alcoholic beverages, and a driver with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or greater is about 25 times more likely.  Basically, the more you drink the more likely you are to have an accident, and a fatal one.  Alcohol impairs judgment, making drivers over-confident and more likely to take risks. It slows their reactions, increases stopping distances, impairs judgment of speed and distance, reduces the ability to concentrate and affects vision. Even a small amount, well below the legal limit, seriously affects the ability to drive safely.

If you are arrested and charged for a DUI the state will prosecute you accordingly. First offense typically resulting in loss of license for 1 year, as well as, federally mandated outpatient alcohol abuse program and probation. Those who have had multiple DUI’s will most likely be prosecuted to the fullest ability of the law, which varies with each individual state jurisdiction. Regardless to if this is your first offense or second if in an accident while DUI you will be fully prosecuted, if an individual is killed as a result you will too be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
