SPAIN Geography of Spain

Geography of Spain… Spain has several regions, however the largest region is in the middle of the country. This area is dry, high or flat area called a MESETA. A meseta is a synonym for a plateau. You will find sheep and cattle on the meseta.

There are mountains in Spain! To the NORTH you will find the PYRENEES which separate Spain from other European countries like France.

Spain is a PENINSULA.. What is a peninsula? The peninsula that Spain shares with Portugal is called the Iberian Peninsula. It is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Africa is only 9 miles away from the southern most point of Spain!

Coastal Regions Spain’s coasts are narrow lowlands squeezed between mountain ranges and water. Dry sunny summers bring tourists to the beaches and resorts. As a tourist you will see many cities and people along the coasts. Why?
