They made robes out of animal skin, and they walked in wooden snow shoes to keep from sinking in snow. Algonquian Indians were the first people in New Hampshire.

Colonies Early Settlers By the 1600’s Spain and France had formed the first colonies in the Americas.

Colonies early settlers cont. the New Hampshire France, Spain, and England founded colonies. The town said people with 50 or more kids must hire teachers.

Farming was a necessary part of life for the early settlers chopping down trees was very important for building farms (to clear the land of course.)

Life in the colonies cont. New Hampshire’s land was rocky and covered with forests. Wars broke out. Many workers were fishers or fur traders

By the late 1600’s New Hampshire’s lumber industry was booming. Pine, maple, cedar,birch trees grew in New Hampshire’s forest. In the New Hampshire Colony chopping down trees could help when they need it to plant crops Colonist used trees to build homes and boats.

Work and Trade New Hampshire’s forests supplied trappers with beaver furs. Colonists traded fish and furs to Europeans. In return they were given much needed supplies.
