THE MILKY WAY GALAXY

GALAXY A galaxy is a massive collection of stars (billions of them), dust and gas. Our solar system belongs to the galaxy called ‘Milky way‘. When you go out in the night time, any star you see in the sky belongs to the Milky way Galaxy. On very clear nights, especially if you live in an area sans much light pollution, you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye.

ABOUT The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our Solar System. Its name "milky" is derived from its appearance as a dim glowing band arching across the night sky.

FACTS THE MILKY WAY GALAXY IS 13.2 billion years old. It has more than 300 billion stars. The Constellation is SagittariusSagittarius.

INTERESTING FACTS The sun orbits the center of the milky way. The sun has completed about 16 rotations around the galaxy and is expected to complete 16 more before it runs out of steam! Milky Way galaxy may collide with Andromeda in 3 to 4 billion years! SUN ORBITING milky way galaxy
