Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 1 CIGRE STUDY COMMITTEE B5: MISSION AND CHALLENGES Javier Amantegui (Spain) Chairman of CIGRE-SC-B5 “Protection and Automation”

Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 2 Table of Contents Introduction CIGRE B5 Mission Challenges SC B5 Organization

Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 3 Introduction Substation secondary system is facing a complete change because of the rapid technology evolution, the difficulties of user to follow that evolution and the new requirements coming from a changing network. The Interchange of information and practices is the key aspect to overcome that difficulties.

Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 4 CIGRE SC-B5 Mission The Study Committee B5 intends to be a worldwide platform for the elaboration and exchange of knowledge and information in order to facilitate the progress of engineering in the field of the power system protection and automation. To be a leading international reference for power system protection and substation automation issues, synthesizing state-of-the-art practices and developing recommendations.

Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 5 CIGRE SC B5 CHALLENGES  Substation Automation Systems  Numerical Protection Applications  New Network Requirements

Amantegui Javier (SP) CIGRE Study Committee B5 6 Substation Automation  Present Situation – is a fact. The technology is available and powerful. – The application of the new SAS concepts has a significant impact in the utilities organization Cubicles, >180 Devices è Line è Transformer è Busbar è Feeder è Control ?
