Ch 17 communicating solutions 1.Alphabet of lines- technical lines used in multi-view drawings

2.Architectural drawing- a drawing showing buildings and structures that will be constructed

3.Assembly drawing- a drawing made to show how to assemble a product

4.Bill of materials- a list of all the parts needed to make one product. It gives the part name, size and quantity of material being used

5.compass- a drawing tool used to make circles and arcs

6.Computer Aided Design (CAD)- a type of design using computers to create and store technical drawings for products

7.Detailed drawing- generally an orthographic view (two-dimensional) drawing giving size and shape to an individual part. Manufacturing workers will use this drawing to make the part.

8.dimensioning- a process using two types of lines in a drawing: extension and dimension lines

9.Drawing board- a smooth surface on which to draw. It includes one straight edge for the T square to move along

10.Engineering drawing- a sketch used to illustrate products that will be manufactured

11.45 degree triangle- a triangle that has one 90 degree corner and two 45 degree corners

12.Isometric drawing- a drawing showing the front, top, and sides of an object, just as the eyes sees them.

13. Mechanical Drawing- a very accurate and precise drawing used by a designer. There are two main classes of drawings: orthographic and pictorial. Orthographic drawings are also known as multi-view drawings. Pictorial drawings are created to look three- dimensional.

14.Multiview drawing- a drawing that uses several views to describe the object. It is also called an orthographic drawing

15.Oblique drawing- a sketch used to show objects in which one view is most important

16. Orthographic drawing- a drawing that has several views used to describe the object. It is also called an multi-view drawing

17. Perspective drawing- a drawing most like what the eye sees. These drawings use vanishing points and vertical lines to display the image.

18. pictorial drawing- a drawing of an object that appears as the eye sees the object. The three major types of pictorial drawings are isometric, oblique, and perspective drawings

19.plotter- a printer able to print on large paper

20.scale- a specialized type of ruler used to make measurements.

21. schematic drawing- a drawing used to shoe the relation of parts to one another and how products flow

22. specification sheet- a list describing items in detail that cannot be shown in drawings.

23. tablet- a device that has a pad and puck and is used with a CAD device

24. template- a piece of plastic with shapes and symbols cut into it that designers use to trace around the edge

25.30 degree-60 degree triangle- a triangle that has one 90 degree corner, one 30 degree corner, and one 60 degree corner.

26. T square- a tool made up of two pieces, the head and the blade. It is used to draw all horizontal lines in a drawing

27. Working drawing- the most complete drawing produced by a designer and used by engineers and architects to display all the information needed to build the solution. These drawings also show how the products are assembled.
