POWER DRILL SAFETY

Written and Produced by MR. SWASEY Copyright February 12, 2013 All rights reserved

Wear Safety Glasses When Using the Drill.

Keep the working area clear of backpacks, binders, coats, etc. that could get in the way and cause an accident.

Remove loose clothing, jewelry, etc. that could get caught in the rotating drill.

Tie back long hair so it doesn’t get wrapped up in the drill.

Clamp the Wood Tightly in a Vise to Hold it.

Hold the Drill with Both Hands for Better Control. This also makes it impossible to drill a hole through your hand.

Check the forward/reverse button before you start drilling. It should be in “FORWARD” when starting to drill a hole.

“Hey, nothing’s happening!” “The wood should start smoking here in a minute!”

Use only twist drill bits in the portable electric drill.

Remove the twist drill bit when transporting the portable drill through the shop. Also remove the twist drill bit from the chuck when you are finished using it.

Check the speed setting before drilling. It should be set on “2” when drilling wood.

Check the clutch before drilling. It should be set on “Drill” unless using the drill with a screwdriver bit.

Lay the drill on it’s side so it doesn’t get knocked over.

Have the Teacher check your set up.

Remove the Chuck Key Before Starting the Drill
