NAT.SCI. Motion, speed at acceleration

Motion The relationship between forces and motion is counter-intuitive and so needs careful explanation. We provide experiments that show a variety of ways of measuring position and time. These measurements lead to concepts of speed, velocity, momentum and acceleration.

SPEED Distance travelled per unit time. Speed is the scalar quantity that is the magnitude of the velocity vector. v = d / t

An airplane wanting to take off runway at 1720m for 32 s until is finally lifts off the ground. Determine the speed taken before takeoff.

52.75 m/s

ACCELERATION Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity as acceleration is the second derivative of position with respect to time or, alternately, the first derivative of the velocity with respect to time a = F / m a = Δv/Δt = (v final - vi nitial ) / (t final - t initial )

Determine the acceleration of the car if it started at stop to the speed of 25 m/s at the time of 10 secs

2.5 m/s 2
