ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY - PATIENT

PURPOSE / POLICY Purpose: ▫To outline the mechanism to identify any environmental, mobility, and bathroom safety risks related to patient care Policy: ▫Ambercare is committed to promoting a safe environment for the patient and family/caregiver

PROCEDURE During the initial visit, the clinician admitting the patient for care/service, will conduct a home safety check to identify any environmental safety issues The home safety assessment (eval) will be documented in the patient record and may include the following elements (not an exhaustive list)

HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENT TO INCLUDE: Infection control measures, including hand hygiene practices, respiratory hygiene and contact precautions Medication safety Fall prevention Lighting (appropriate to reduce fall risk) Communication Bathroom safety Fire safety / electrical safety Child safety
