450 (Kenley) Sqn ATC 2014 – The Year Ahead Flt Lt G Bromley Officer Commanding

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES To have our best year yet For Cadets to take part enthusiastically in a wide range of Sqn & Wing Events To enter teams in all Wing Competitions To study, sit and pass classification exams To increase Duke of Edinburgh Award participation

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO HAVE OUR BEST YEAR YET? This simply means, each and every Cadet, NCO and Staff Member to do what they can in order to make the Squadron, it’s activities, it’s results and successes, as positive and worthwhile as possible. The responsibility for this lies with EVERY one of us

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES FOR CADETS TO TAKE PART ENTHUSIASTICALLY IN A WIDE RANGE OF SQN AND WING EVENTS Squadron Staff and Wing Staff spend a lot of time putting events together for Cadets – whether they be camps, visits, competitions... I would rather have to turn people away than to cancel the activity due to lack of interest

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO ENTER TEAMS IN ALL WING COMPETITIONS Sunday 2 March: South Downs Trophy Sunday 13 April: 5 a Side Football Competition Sunday 18 May: Athletics Championships Sunday 6 & 13 July: Drill Competition Mid September: Swimming Championships Mid September: Air Rec, Aero modelling & Photos Mid November: Cross Country Championships

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO STUDY, SIT AND PASS CLASSIFICATION EXAMS JUNIOR CADETS – 1 ST CLASS WILL STUDY (LOGBOOK) The Air Training Corps The Royal Air Force History of Flight Initial Expedition Training Airmanship Map Reading Basic Radio Communications Drill

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO STUDY, SIT AND PASS CLASSIFICATION EXAMS 1 ST CLASS – LEADING CADETS WILL STUDY Airmanship 2 (Exam in February) Basic Navigation (Exam in March) Principles of Flight (Exam in November)

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO STUDY, SIT AND PASS CLASSIFICATION EXAMS LEADING TO SENIOR CADETS WILL STUDY Piston Engine (Exam in February) Jet Engine (Exam in March) Aircraft Handling & Flying Tech (Exam in November)

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO STUDY, SIT AND PASS CLASSIFICATION EXAMS SENIOR TO MASTER CADETS WILL STUDY Airframes (Exam in February) Basic Air Navigation (Exam in March) Air Power (Exam in November)

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES It is crucial that you attend as success in these exams brings a BTEC in Aviation Studies – at no extra cost. All examinations are now done online – the paper system is now discontinued. Exams are sat chapter by chapter, with roughly 2 questions per chapter which you have to pass to a satisfactory standard.....meaning if you fail one chapter you only need resit that chapter, and can do so after only 10 days Don’t forget – you must pass these exams to progress through your career in the Air Cadets: eg, for an Overseas Camp you must be a Leading Cadet

SQUADRON OBJECTIVES TO INCREASE DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD PARTICIPATION Existing participants to continue, complete and qualify their award To introduce and enrol new cadets to the Award

A FEW UPCOMING EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES NCO COURSES (late Jan) ATC SUNDAY PARADE, GUILDFORD (2 Feb) PURLEY SWIMATHON (13 Feb) GLIDING (9 Mar) BASIC TRAINING CAMP (Sometime in March / April) EASTER CAMP to RAF AKROTIRI, CYPRUS (Easter Holidays) ANNUAL INSPECTION (29 Jun) ***** COMPULSORY EVENT !! ***** VISIT TO RAF WADDINGTON AIRSHOW (5 Jul) SQN CAMP TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT (19 – 26 Jul)

FINALLY... You will get as much out of the Air Cadets as you put in. If you attend regularly and take part in as much as you can, you will have a better overall experience. GET INVOLVED!!
