About Video Game Designers Their job is to basically create the video game itself They use their imagination and creativity to create the games that we play today There are four different types of video game designers that each has a role in creating the game: Lead Designer (they help get the other designers started, keeps everything organized) Content Designer (put ideas into the content of the game) Level Designer (create the levels of the game) Game Mechanic Designer (develop the vital pieces of the game)

Video Game Designer’s Process Designers start off with a prototype game programmers created for them They then use a scripting language to view their ideas that were put in the prototype They try many different concepts and ideas to see which works best for the game they are creating

Video Game Designer’s Process (cont.) Each video game designer has a different role in creating the game – Atmosphere – Characters – Storyline – Bosses They communicate with each other so that they all are on the same page so they can bring out the best features of their game Communication is key for these designers in order to work together to create the game

Salary and Education Salary per year for a video game designer is $68,000 Money doesn’t matter to them as long as they get to what they love To be hired for this occupation they need a college degree in in fields that require programming code or developing games
