Read these definitions… ‘The world we live in, especially plants, animals and things around us.’ ‘The surroundings of a place; especially effecting peoples’ lives.’ ‘Surroundings and conditions under which one lives and works; the water and air around us.’

What things do we need in our environment? Air Food Water Light Safety Happiness Language

What environment are we in now? What does it feel like in this environment? How is it different from home?

What other environments can you think of? Think of the different places you visit… Perhaps think about climate zones to help you…

Which environment is your favourite? Why? Use your senses…

What do you think makes an environment a nice place to be? Warmth? Sunshine? Small? Large? Brightly coloured? Quiet? Friendly?

What things does it have there? Furniture Objects Games Pictures etc…

Think about how art and design can change or improve an environment…

How could a garden or an outside area be improved using art and design?

Can you define sculpture? The art of carving in wood or stone. To produce shapes in metal. Can sculptures be made out of other materials? Do they have to be actual objects?

Sculptures in public places… This is Salvador Dali’s sculpture Do you know where it is? It represents a place half way between Earth and Heaven. Abstract

Sculptures in public places… Angel of the North. A1 at Gateshead… As you enter Northern England.

Can you answer these questions? Where might you find sculptures? What can they be made out of? What size are they? Have you seen any sculptures in the area? Which was your favourite sculpture? Why? Where might look better because of a sculpture?

SCHOOL! If we were to make a sculpture for our school grounds, what might you use for inspiration?

Your turn…
