1 ADVANCED MICROSOFT POWERPOINT Lesson 7 – Working with Visual and Sound Objects Microsoft Office 2003: Advanced

2 Objectives Insert and modify clip art. Use the drawing tools to create simple drawings. Insert pictures and digital images on slides. Insert sound objects on slides. Insert video clips on slides.

3 Terms Used in This Lesson Crop: To remove portions of a graphic that you do not want to display.

4 Working with Clip Art Locate and insert clip art from the Clip Art task pane. Modify clip art to suit your needs by – Resizing and moving a piece of clip art. – Using a cropping tool to remove parts of the graphic that you don’t want. – Recoloring parts of the graphic.

5 Working with Clip Art (cont.) Use the Picture toolbar tools to modify clip art Use options in the Format Picture dialog box to resize a graphic

6 Working with Clip Art (cont.) Click and drag a black line or corner to crop the graphic Click a color in the New column to select a new color

7 Working with Clip Art (cont.) PowerPoint can display two types of “moving pictures”: – Animated GIFs – Video clips Animated GIFs are inserted the same way as clip art pictures. Click Clip art on Office Online to search for pictures on the Office Online Web site.

9 Using Drawing Tools Use the tools on the Drawing toolbar to create an illustration. Besides basic drawing tools, the Drawing toolbar contains tools for formatting objects. The Draw and AutoShapes menus offer additional commands and drawing objects.

10 Using Drawing Tools (cont.) Click Draw to access commands such as Group and Order Click AutoShapes to access categories of predrawn shapes Use coloring tools to change fill, line, or text color Shadow and 3- D tools add dimension to a drawing object

11 Using Drawing Tools (cont.) Before you can work with an object, you must select it by clicking it. Select multiple objects by clicking one, holding down Shift, and clicking additional objects. Use Group to create a single object from multiple objects. Use Align or Distribute to line up or position objects evenly. Use Order to change the layer of an object.

12 Inserting Pictures and Digital Images Pictures can be saved in a number of formats: JPG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF, for example. Insert a picture using the Insert Picture tool or the Insert, Picture, From File command. Use options on the Picture toolbar to adjust the way the picture looks. Pictures can also be inserted directly on a slide from a scanner or digital camera.

13 Inserting Pictures and Digital Images (cont.) Browse for a picture to insert using the Insert Picture dialog box Click the picture you want to use and then click Insert

14 Inserting Sound Objects Add a sound object by pointing to Movies and Sounds on the Insert menu and then choosing Sound from Clip Organizer or Sound from File. Choose whether to have the sound play automatically when the slide appears or when the sound icon is clicked on the slide.

15 Inserting Sound Objects (cont.) You can also insert a sound object by searching using the Clip Art task pane. Key a word for which to search, make sure Results should be is set to Sounds, and click Go.

16 Inserting Movie Clips PowerPoint supports video clips in AVI and MPEG format. Insert a video clip by pointing to Movies and Sounds on the Insert menu and then choosing Movie from Clip Organizer or Movie from File. PowerPoint 2003 offers improved playback for movies.

17 Inserting Movie Clips (cont.) To set movie options, right- click the movie clip and select Edit Movie Object. You can choose to – Loop the movie. – Rewind the movie when done. – Adjust the sound volume. – Hide the movie object. – Zoom the movie to full screen.

18 Summary You can easily modify clip art graphics to fit the design scheme of your slide show. You can also insert animated clip art images that move when displayed in a slide show. You can use PowerPoint’s drawing tools to create simple drawings to enhance a slide.

19 Summary (cont.) You can use pictures to add even more visual interest to a slide. Pictures can include photographs or line drawings. Sound and video clips provide other multimedia interest to a slide show and are added as easily as clip art and pictures. Clip Art and Media is a Web site that you can reach easily from the Clip Art task pane.
