Aims To provide subject specialists with a general overview of the standards for both Unit and Course assessments.

Course Structure

Course Structure Level Number of Units Course Assessment National 3 3 Internally assessed National 4 4 National 5 Question paper Assignment report Higher Advanced Higher Project report

National 3 to Higher Units Each level has three standard Units - Chemical Changes and Structure - Nature’s Chemistry - Chemistry in Society Each of these Units has two Outcomes which are subdivided into a number of Assessment Standards. National 4 also has an Added Value Unit (AVU). Higher also has a Researching Chemistry Unit

Advanced Higher Units Advanced Higher has two standard Units - Inorganic and Physical Chemistry - Organic Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis Each of these standard Units has two Outcomes which are subdivided into a number of Assessment Standards. Advanced Higher has a Researching Chemistry Unit This Unit also has two Outcomes and Outcome 1 is subdivided into three Assessment Standards. .

Unit Assessment All Units are internally assessed. Unit Assessment Support Packs (UASPs), published on the SQA secure site, provide: Guidance for candidates Suggested assessment activities Conditions for assessment Marking guidance
