© Copyright 2013 TONE SOFTWARE CORPORATION. Confidential and Proprietary. All rights reserved. ® Basic Administrator Training – Release Entities Key elements of an entity 1. Entities represent the devices you are monitoring 2. The entity class defines the entity’s monitoring parameters Selections made at the class level propagate to entities of that class 3. Entities can be created from scratch or an existing entity can be copied to create a new entity 4. Entities cannot be deleted until all alarms associated with the entity have been cleared 5. A device can have more than one entity in certain circumstances 6. Prerequisites to creating an entity: A class is installed For SNMP traps: SNMPMGR file is in the c.type.conf tab of the DAP A dedicated channel is created in the c.data.conf tab of the DAP Log pattern is available (through the foundation kit) A center or subcenter must be available 2 Entities

© Copyright 2013 TONE SOFTWARE CORPORATION. Confidential and Proprietary. All rights reserved. ® Basic Administrator Training – Release Entities Entities Remember – parameter selections at the class level propagate to entities of that class Applies to new entities and to previously created entities Changes made at the class level will update existing entities Exception – the parameter has been overridden at the entity level At the entity level you: Can override functionality enabled at the class level Cannot add functionality if not enabled at the class level Example: Cannot use Ping at the entity level if not selected at the class level 3

© Copyright 2013 TONE SOFTWARE CORPORATION. Confidential and Proprietary. All rights reserved. ® Basic Administrator Training – Release Entities Two options: 1. Select Entities under General in the Administration module and click New. This creates an entity from scratch. 2. Rather than New, select an existing entity and click Copy. 4 Entities – Adding a New Entity

© Copyright 2013 TONE SOFTWARE CORPORATION. Confidential and Proprietary. All rights reserved. ® Basic Administrator Training – Release Entities Entities - General Tab Configuring the new entity - New Name – required Center – select a center from the drop-down list Host/DAP Enter the Host name or IP address; select the DAP from the drop-down list. Note: If you want to collect SNMP traps, run scheduled traceroutes, and generate trap-related reports, you must use the channel set-up; for all other functionality you can use the Host/DAP set-up. 5 New entity from scratch New entity copied from an existing entity

Entities - General Tab (cont.) General tab 7 UI ElementDescription NameEnter a name for the entity. Alpha/numeric, upper and lower case, underscores ( _ ) and dashes (-) allowed. No spaces. DescriptionEnter a description if you want to (optional). CenterThe center or subcenter should be available already; select it from the drop-down list. You can assign the entity to any available center when you are creating the entity; later, when you create a new center/subcenter, you can reassign the entity. ClassSelect the class from the drop-down list. CoverageIf you’ve created a coverage for the center, you don’t need to add it here. Options: Selecting a coverage here will override a coverage selected at the center level Adding the coverage at the center level propagates to nested entities However, the coverage isn’t displayed in this field. If a coverage has not been created yet, that’s O.K. You can do it later. Creating a coverage later, for the center, will propagate to all entities under that center HostIf not using a channel configuration, enter the host’s name or IP address. DAPIf not using a channel configuration, select the DAP from the drop-down list.

It must be entered exactly as it appears in the cdata.conf file. Log PatternLeave this field blank for now. When you click Apply the system will automatically select the log pattern associated with the class. Log AgeThis is the time period within which log data will be retained.
