What is an apprenticeship? Apprenticeship is an on- the-job training program for people who want to work in a skilled trade or occupation and includes learning new skills from skilled journeypersons.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Grade 11 & 12 Students become registered apprentices Hours count towards Journeyman status

What are the rules? To enter OYAP a student must: Complete all 16 credits (Grade 9 and 10) Be at least 16 years old Good attendance in school Courteous, positive and responsible attitude Sincere interest in skills training Two year commitment and maintain 70% average

Pros and Cons Cons: 1) 2 year commitment and maintain 70% average 2) Aren’t learning the same material as other students 3) Earlier attendance record in school affects your future career 4) Not for everyone 5) Starting young, so you may not be mature or capable enough to perform your best. 6) Close other doors if things don’t work out.
