The Bible is From God Super Sunday – Lesson 4

 The Bible is NOT a science text book  But there are statements throughout the Bible that are facts of science  FACTS that were not known or “discovered” for centuries  How did the Bible writers know about these things?

 Job 38:22 – “Have you entered the treasury of snow, Or have you seen the treasury of hail,  Now we know what God was saying  Snow contains – nitrogen  It is important to gardens, lawns, farmers, and grazing land VALUE OF SNOW

 Job 26:7 - He stretches out the north over empty space  In 1609 Galileo invented the telescope and began to study the sky  The thinking of the world (religious and scientific) was GEOCENTRIC - - a view that all the solar system revolved around the earth EMPTY NORTH SKY

 Galileo dared to suggest that:  The north sky did not have many stars  The earth was NOT the center  The earth traveled around the sun - - called “heliocentric” – We orbit the sun  For his “heresy” he was excommunicated and his writings were banned EMPTY NORTH SKY

 Job 26:7 - He hangs the earth on nothing.  Many theories existed to explain how the earth was held in place  It was not until Isaac Newton that we were taught about gravity GRAVITY

 The famous event of an apple falling from a tree – caused him to ask the question – Why did the apple fall down?  His study lead to the concept of gravity GRAVITY

 Newton “discovered” the forces of gravity on the earth  God knew that long before Newton GRAVITY

 Psalm 8:8 - The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.  An oceanographer was on his deathbed when he heard these words  He resolved to learn their meaning – and lived to track and chart ocean currents to help ships cross the ocean OCEAN CURRENTS

 Psalm 19:5-6 – 5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. 6 Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. SUN ORBIT

 Job 38:19 – Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place,  Light has a “way” – light travels  We now measure outer space in “light years” – the distance light travels in one year SPEED OF LIGHT

 Ecclesiastes 1:6-7 – 6 The wind goes toward the south, And turns around to the north; The wind whirls about continually, And comes again on its circuit. 7 All the rivers run into the sea, Yet the sea is not full; To the place from which the rivers come, There they return again. EVAPORATION CYCLE

 Job 36:27-28 – 27 For He draws up drops of water, Which distill as rain from the mist, 28 Which the clouds drop down And pour abundantly on man.  Job 26:8 - He binds up the water in His thick clouds, Yet the clouds are not broken under it. EVAPORATION CYCLE

 God commanded Noah to build an ark  450 feet long  75 feet wide  45 feet high  This is a ratio of 30 : 5 : 3 SIZE OF ARK

 For centuries this size and ratio was ridiculed as not sea worthy  In 1844, a man named Isambard K. Brunnel built his giant ship, the Great Britain.  The SS Jeremiah O'Brien enters the English Channel SIZE OF ARK

 As it turns out, these measurements are perfect for a huge boat built to stay afloat rather than for speed.  God knew all along what was needed for the ark to stay afloat loaded with heavy cargo SIZE OF ARK

 Deuteronomy 23: “Also you shall have a place outside the camp, where you may go out; 13 and you shall have an implement among your equipment, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and turn and cover your refuse.  God knew some things about human waste that we did not know for many centuries BURY WASTE

 In Europe, during the Middle Ages, more than 13 million died in what is called “The BLACK Plague.”  The plague was – open refuse – human waste that was NOT buried  If only they had known what God knew all along BURY WASTE

 Leviticus 17:11 - For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’  Bleeding was a common treatment for illness LIFE IN THE BLOOD

 George Washington bled to death because they were trying to get rid of the poison in his body  Leeches were used to suck out the poison  They did not know they were killing rather than healing LIFE IN THE BLOOD

 Jeremiah 33:22 - As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me. COUTLESS STARS

 Genesis 15:5 - Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” COUTLESS STARS

 Isaiah 40:22 - It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.  Isaiah 42:5 - Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: EXPANSIVE OUTER SPACE

 The LORD is speaking – Isaiah 45:12 - I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.  The scientific evidence is overwhelming  THE BIBLE IS FROM GOD

 There can be no other explanation for the knowledge the Bible contained many centuries before man “discovered” these facts  The challenge for us now –  We must believe that this is the WORD of GOD  We must OBEY the commands
