WHAT IS HYDRATION?  Hydration - The chemical combination of water into another substance.

Hydration is important because… Your body depends on water for survival. Every cell, tissue and organ needs water to function. Water is essential for good health.

6 to 8 GLASSES per day There are different recommendations for water intake each day. Most people have been told they should be drinking 6 to 8 8- ounce glasses of water each day, which is a reasonable goal

Reasons why your body loses water…  Bathroom usage  When you sweat  When you breathe.  If you lose a lot of water you can become DEHYDRATED. DEHYDRATED

Reasons why your body loses water continued… When you exercise When you have a fever. When you vomit When you have diarrhea

Reasons why extra water is needed… Having kidney stones or bladder infections Are pregnant or breastfeeding Are going to be exercising Are trying to lose weight

Signs of Dehydration  Little or no urine  Dry mouth  Sleepiness or fatigue  Extreme thirst
