Angles

What are angles? Or, when is an angle made? What unit do we use when we measure angles?

Think of a circle e.g. the face of a clock How many degrees are there in a full turn? A half turn? A quarter turn?

What type of angle is this?

What shapes have right angles?

Activity on Moodle How many right angles are in your name? Find the task sheet on Moodle: Maths Entry Level > 2D Shapes and Angles > ‘rightangle-name.pdf’ Print and complete Extension: right angles in the environment Maths Entry Level > 2D Shapes and Angles > ‘w-right-angles-in-the-environment.doc’

Types of Angles Angles less than 90  are called acute angles.

Types of Angles Angles greater than 90  but less than 180  are called obtuse angles.

Types of Angles Angles greater than 180  are called reflex angles.

Activity on Moodle For each example, correctly identify which type of angle it is. Find the task sheet on Moodle: Maths Entry Level > 2D Shapes and Angles > ‘w-types- of-angles.doc’ Print and complete, or type your answers and then print.

Aims and Objectives Correctly identify properties in each of a range of 2D shapes. Correctly recognise and identify different types of angles and their shapes. Become familiar with lines and degrees and how they construct different types of angles. Explain where angles are found in buildings and inside buildings.

Quick Quiz!
