MUSUEU PICASSO Alyssa Coleman

OVERLOOK  The Musueu Picasso is located in Barcelona Spain and is home to over 3,500 works including one of the most extensive pieces of work by the famous artist Pablo Picasso.  It was first opened to the public on March 9, of 1963 and was the first museum souly dedicated to Picasso’s work.

 The mastermind behind the idea of a museum was Picasso’s lifelong friend/secretary, Jaume Sabartés.  On July 27, 1960 Sabartés signed an agreement with the city to found the museum and was opened one year later. The works included Sabartés’ personal collection and some that had been donated to the city of Barcelona. HISTORY

ARCHITECTURE  The museum is made up of five large houses or “palaces” of the Calle Montcada Barcelona. The building styles are of the Gothic Civil Catalan style.  Every house has a patio with an exterior staircase that leads to the main floors. The houses include the Paulau Aguilar, Palau Baró de Castellet, Palau Meca, Casa Mauri and Palau Windows.
