Why is Niagara Falls important to the Northeast region ? Much of the electricity is produced by the falls for the region. People can use the hydropower to make machines run. Many tourists spend money when they come to visit the falls each year. Hydropower plants on the Niagara River capture the energy of the flowing water to fun mills and machines. Niagara is the largest producer of electricity in New York State. Niagara generates enough power to light 24 million 100 watt light bulbs at once. Your lamp at home is 40 watt.

The Mountains of the Northeast The oldest and longest chain of mountains in North America is the Appalachian Mountain Range. It begins in Canada and extends all the way to Alabama.

The Green Mountains go through Vermont. They are called the green mountains because they are covered with forests The Green Mountains go through Vermont. The Green Mountains also get snow so they are home to many ski resorts.

White Mountains The White Mountains get its name because they are covered with snow. The peaks are covered with snow. The White Mountains are located in New Hampshire and part of Maine. Just like the Green Mountain, at the White Mountains you will find ski resorts.

The Catskill Mountains are located in New York. They were carved by a glacier.
