Adult Life -To Please his father, Theodor studied English at Oxford University in England after Dartmouth College -His first wife’s name was Helen. -They met at school -His wife was also became a children’s author and book editor -After returning to the U.S. Ted began to pursue a career as a cartoonist! -He created advertising campaigns for Standard Oil for 15 years.

Writing Career -Theodor’s Mother, Henetta Seuss Geisel, often got her children to go to bed by reciting rhymes! -Because of this Ted thought it was because of his mother that he had the ability and desire to rhyme. -Theodor started using the pen name Dr. Seuss after getting kicked off the Dartmouth College literary humor magazine

Writing Career Continued - And to Think I saw it on Mulberry Street, Dr. Seuss’ first published book, required a great degree of persistence – it was rejected 27 times -With the release of The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss became a definitive children’s book author and illustrator
