Academic Support

Academic Support Goals Have consistent place for students to go when they want to seek out academic support. Provide a plan for students who find themselves behind in our core areas. Provide options for students to gather and collaborate. Provide a method of staff support for students with missing assignments or late work.

Four Areas of Academic Focus Academic Zone – Library Assigned Study Halls – Throughout Building Small Study Halls – Room 160 Commons Area – Cafeteria

Commons Area - Cafeteria Area is designed for students meeting academic and behavior requirements. Students may study quietly or visit with other students. No assigned seating. Students will sign-in when they enter the cafeteria. Students may check out to other areas. Students may use electronic devices responsibly. Student Expectations – Choose a table and sit down to study, visit quietly, or use electronic device responsibly.

Release Students Release students who choose not to leave the building are asked to go to the library, Commons, Tiger’s Den or a supervised area. Once you report to an area you will be asked to stay there for the period. We ask that students not wander the halls during class time.

Academic Zone - Library

This is a support center where ALL students can go for teacher assistance. There will be a teacher from math, science, social studies and English available for help. Sign out of the commons area or from an assigned study hall with a teachers note. Release students may drop in during your free period. Teachers will do their best to answer questions from all academic areas.

Academic Zone * Student expectations – Come for help with specific work. – Work quietly when not receiving teacher assistance. – Check into your assigned study hall or commons area for attendance before coming to academic zone (unless on release).

Assigned Study Halls Assigned study halls are for students who do not qualify for commons area or release because of academic or behavior concerns. Counselors and administration will assign students. Students can earn release or be reassigned to commons by fulfilling the academic/behavior contract with their counselor or administrator.

Assigned Study Hall Student expectations – Expected to work silently or read. – Expected to show up with study materials. – May check out to the academic zone with a note from a teacher. – Can earn your way to the commons area with academic and behavior success. – Can use electronic devices only with teacher permission.

Small Study Halls – Room 160 Designed to support in the completion of missing or late One teacher from math, social studies, science and English. A limited number of students will be assigned each period. Teachers who recommend students to small study hall will determine when they are released to return to their assigned study hall, release, or commons.

Small Study Hall Student expectations – Work on assigned work and show academic progress each period – Come with necessary materials – Only use electronic devices needed for assignment completion
