1. I have rock climbed on four continents in five countries. 2. I have ridden a motorcycle from Canada to South America. 3. I have walked from the Pyrenees in France to the westernmost point of Spain (1000km). But… one of these is a lie. Now: try your own!

A Trek is a long, adventurous journey on foot in areas which are difficult to travel in. Great places to trek: The Himalayas in Nepal/ Tibet The savannahs of Africa Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya The Andes mountains in Chile Ask your partners: Have you ever gone trekking? Where did you go? Would you be interested in trekking? Where would you like to go? Do you think you’ll be able to go? Where are the best places for trekking in China?

Bicycle touring is cycling over long distances – focusing on pleasure and endurance. Touring can be anything from single day rides to multi-day trips. Great places to go on a bicycle tour: Europe (France and Czech Republic) Vietnam China Argentina Ask your partners: Do you like to ride bicycles? What is the farthest you’ve ever travelled by bicycle? What do you think would be enjoyable about this? Difficult? Would you like to go on a tour? Where to?

Scuba diving is the use of a self- contained breathing set to stay underwater for periods of time. Great places to dive: The Red Sea near Egypt Borneo off the coast of Indonesia The Great Barrier Reef in Australia Cozumel in the Caribbean near Mexico Ask your partners: Can you swim? Have you ever been scuba diving or snorkeling? What was it like? What do you think it would be like to breathe underwater? Are you interested in marine life?

Skiing is a sport in which a person attaches long runners (skis) to the feet and uses them to travel on top of snow. Cross-country skiing is a form of ski touring in which skiers push themselves across using skis and poles. Great places: Anywhere there is snow Ask your partners: Have you ever been skiing? Do you prefer downhill or cross- country skiing? Do you think ski trekking would be fun?

Rock climbing is an activity in which participants climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. Great places to rock climb: Thailand Colorado, USA Utah, USA Morocco Spain Ask your partners: Have you ever tried an extreme sport? Would you enjoy rock climbing? Do you think you’re strong/brave enough to rock climb? Do you enjoy the feeling of an adrenaline rush?

Plan an imaginary adventure with your partner:  How many people are going to go?  What activities are you going to do?  Where are you going to go?  How are you going to travel?  How long is the adventure going to last?  What are some experiences you hope to have? Now, stand up and talk to the other students to find out about their trips!

Ask your partners about their next adventures:  Are adventures always physical?  Are you an adventurous person?  What are some adventurous things you like to do?  What is the most exciting trip you’ve gone on or adventure you’ve had? Tell me about it!  What adventures would you like to have?  What do you think of these quotes: › “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” –Helen Keller › “Somebody ought to tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit every minute of every day. Do it, I say, whatever you want to do, do it now.” — Michael Landon › “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain
