Because they prefer all the business of a city over the quiet suburbs

Customs, religions, ethnic groups in region- Religion predominantly Christian Roman Catholicism - largest religious denomination in the Midwest, between 19 and 29% of the state populations Southern Baptists compose 15.42% of Missouri's population and a small percentage in other Midwestern states Lutherans -prevalent in the Upper Midwest, Minnesota and the Dakotas with their large Scandinavian and German populations. Judaism- is practiced by 2.5% Islam is practiced by 1% or less of the population People with no religious affiliation make up 13–16% of the Midwest's population Surveys show 54% of Midwesterners regularly attend church Ethnic Groups- 1. The rainfall in the Midwest can very as much as 50 in. in Northwestern Missouri to 13 in. in Western North Dakota. What effect does climate have on settlement patterns in the region? If it is too hot or too cold, people decide to settle in a different state.

Detailed description of economic issues – one of the most important farming areas in the United States huge manufacturing industry climate and natural resources are important to its economy. The Midwest has fertile, deep soil that is good for farming Iowa and Illinois are the leading corn crop producers Kansas and North Dakota produce the most wheat in the region Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan are the region's dairy states How has climate affected the settlement of the region? If it is too hot or too cold, people decide to settle in a different state. How has pollution affected the lives of the people in the region? The rivers get polluted, and then the fish get sick. If the fish are sick, they are not edible. Also, it is not healthy to be inhaling too much pollution.

Identify why people have chosen to live where they have in the region- Family Weather Not many crimes How are goods transported to, within and out of region- Interstate 70,35, and 80, Missouri river & Mississippi river, O'Hare airport, BNSF, DWP &DME railway Are there any interesting traditions or customs present in region? Food, recipes, dance and music What might happen if one or more of the major transportation routes within the region were interrupted? The major business that used that route would not be able to supply their product to their customers that are at the end of the route. That would lead to very unhappy customers

This effects the U.S. economy because the products of the Midwest can easily be sent to the east or the west. Also, the Midwest is one of the most important farming areas in the United States.
