The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. Phi Theta Kappa's mission is two-fold: Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and; Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

 Definition: The ability to use one’s time effectively or productively  Time Management Involves:  Setting goals  Planning  Organizing  Utilizing resources  Conserving time  Maintaining life / work / school balance

 Priorities are the tasks that you have to do (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)  Choose a method of prioritizing that works for you  Colors  Numbers  Letters  Things that should be on your list of priorities are…  Study time  Family obligations  Working hours  Class schedule  Extracurricular activities

My Schedule

Sample Priority Scheduling Thursday 6 November 2014 PriorityPE - Core Conditioning 6:00 – 6:50 a.m. HONORS IN ACTION SERVICE PROJECT Film Documentary II 12:30 – 5:20 p.m. Not UrgentCall Sis – confirm travel plans for summit Buy coffee cake for chapter meeting Special noteCharlie Klein returns - chapter meeting Friday Post-Presentation Note / Suggestion: To better prioritize my activities, I divide my schedule into three sections so that I am not hard on myself if the non-urgent activities are not fulfilled that day.

 What sucks up your free time ?

 Most Common Culprits  Instant messaging / texting  Constantly checking s  Long-term interruptions  Multi-tasking  Workspace / desk clutter  Web-surfing beyond break time  Social media  Computer games

 Procrastination: Defined as a tendency to put things off  Writing a paper the night before it is due  Cramming for a test instead of studying for it from the start  Impacts:  Unnecessary stress  Sleep deprivation  Counter-productivity – you’re reacting rather than being proactive

 Try to eliminate unnecessary or time-wasting tasks  Learn to say ‘NO’ to people  Work together with those around you  Write tasks down on your own daily priority schedule  Priority / non-urgent / special notes  Be realistic (and compassionate) of what you can do  Wear a watch or carry your cell phone so that you are always aware of the time  Set your alarm to complete tasks if necessary  Reward yourself for effective time management

 Officer Shadow Program  Members invited to participate in activities  Learn Phi Theta Kappa programs  Develop relationship with current officer team  Incentives – Membership Achievement Points  Chapter Officer Leadership Summit  Close Communication with Advisor(s)  Learn what worked / what hasn’t worked  Officers Retreat

 What have you heard through the grapevine?
