IQ vs. EQ Cognitive intelligence (IQ) Focuses on the ability to act purposefully, think rationally and deal effectively with your environment Simply put, it measures an individual’s intellectual, analytical, logical and rational abilities

IQ vs. EQ Emotional intelligence (EQ) Focuses on the ability to be aware of, understand and manage both your own and others’ emotions in order to adapt to life pressures Simply put, it measures an individual’s ability to read situations, connect with others and take charge of your own life

Examples: Emotionally “Smart” Successfully manages difficult situations Expresses him/herself clearly Gains respect from others Influences other people Keeps cool under pressure Recognizes his/her emotional reactions to people or situations Motivates him/herself to get things done Knows how to say the right thing to get the right results
