 Windows 2000 is a continuation of the Microsoft Windows NT family of operating systems, replacing Windows NT 4.0. Originally called Windows NT 5.0, then Windows NT 2000, Microsoft changed the name to Windows 2000 on 27 October 1998.It is also the  first Windows version that has  been released without a code name

Windows 2000 is a line of operating system software produced by Microsoft for use on business desktops and notebook computers four editions were released of windows 2000:professional,server,a-dvanced server,and datacenter server

Windows is not written in a specific programming language. The entire operating system itself is based on a kernel, which is written in Assembler, C, C++, and a few other high-level programming languages.

Microsoft produces different versions of Windows 200 server depends on the market needs: Windows 2000 professional Windows 2000 server Windows 2000 advanced server Windows 2000 datacenter server

This edition was designed as the desktop operating system for business and power users and it offers a greater security and stability than many of the previous windows desktops operating systems

Sharing the same user interface with windows 2000 professional but contain additional components for the computer to perform server roles and runs infrastructure and application software

_Windows advanced server is a variant of windows 2000 server operating system designed for medium to-large business and it offers clustering infrastructure for high availability and scalability of applications and services _Windows 2000 datacenter server is a variant of windows 2000 server designed for large business that move large quantities of confidential or sensitive data frequently.

 The encrypting of file system introducing a strong encryption for the system files EFS works by encrypting a file with a bulk symmetric key because it takes a less time to encrypt and decrypt large amounts of data.

All editions of windows 2000 server support the following features: Routing and remote access service DNS server and support the dynamic DNS IP(SEC) and TCP/IP filtering Smartcards support: Memory cards Micro processor cards
