MULTI-GAS MONITOR FOR CONFINED SPACE APPLICATIONS

Multi-Gas Monitor for CSA MULTI-GAS MONITORS

MULTI-GAS MONITOR FOR CONFINED SPACE APPLICATIONS The typical 4 gas monitor used for confined space entry has ability to monitor 4 gases (O2, LEL, and two toxic gas sensors) simultaneously in one compact monitor with sampling pump. They have a loud audible alarm that varies for different alarm conditions and an optional external vibration alarm for noisy areas.

TYPICAL SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS Gas Monitor Range Resolution Oxygen 0-30% 0.1% Combustible Gas 0-100% LEL 1% LEL Carbon Monoxide 0-500 ppm 1 ppm Hydrogen Sulfide 0-100 ppm 1 ppm Nitric Oxide 0-250 ppm 1 ppm Hydrogen Cyanide 0-100 ppm 1 ppm

FOUR GASES ARE LESS THAN TOTAL PROTECTION Most confined space monitors provide less than total protection because they miss many toxic vapors and gases. LEL sensors measure explosivity, not toxicity. Many Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are potentially toxic at levels that are well below the sensitivity of the LEL sensors found in most multi-gas monitors.

ADVANTAGES OF 4 GAS METERS Alarms for separate sensors can also be set for Short Term Exposure Levels (STEL), Time Weighted Average (TWA), Peaks and Minimums. You can measure oxygen levels. This is critical to confined space entry operations. You measure LEL % directly, also a confined space entry requirement.

Sensors (LEL, O2, H2S, CO & 10.6eV PID) BEST COMBINATION Combine a PID and a 4-gas monitor and you have true protection from the unexpected. Sensors (LEL, O2, H2S, CO & 10.6eV PID) When doing confined space work, you may need the added broadband protection of a PID. Measure volatile organic compounds (VOC's) in low parts per million, including benzene, gasoline, butadiene, trichloroethylene and vinyl chloride.

BOTTOM LINE In confined space entry, you must measure oxygen and LEL %. Therefore, the 4 gas meter is required. In unknown situations, consider the addition of the PID to the 4 gas meter. Remember that PIDs are NOT VOC specific. Combination instruments are available to rent. Be safe!
